Dear Friends,

GLOBE COMMUNITY FITNESS & ACTIVITIES CENTRE is based in the Clifford Ward area of Old Trafford, Manchester.

Clifford; is a small, densely populated, disadvantaged ward at the North East tip of the Borough, bordering Hulme to the East and Whalley Range to the South of Manchester.  Physically the area is characterised by dense residential areas of Victorian terraced housing and a divers range of housing stock.

This area is also known for its very diverse population, vibrant communites and active community groups.

Globe History

GLOBE became one of the active community groups in the area in 2015; after recognising that there were very few facilities, to support the Health & Wellbeing of the community members and a lack of event/leisure facilitys.

The property we occupy at present, had not been used in 25 years, had no heating, gas, electric, correct water supply and was completly filled on both floors with rubbish. 

Over the next 18 months Volunteers, ploughed their energy into clearing 3 to 4 tons of rubbish, getting specialist support in removing: dangerous asbestos materials, large pieces of wood, glass, oil tins, old paints, desil canistors, paint stripper, iron, car parts, doors etc.  Gaining donations to support hiring 6 to 7 large skips and specialist support required from planning, plus materials required for basic preparations of the building was required to make the building safe.

The following months, we put in a lot of Volunteers hours; whether finding financial support, materials, completing relevant funding applications or passing our vision on to others.

Our success is accredited to the willing Volunteers, that we have gained; everyone has a skill and might not recognise it and we aim to help them realise their 'hidden' skills and potential when helping the communities.

We also recognise "Food Poverty" as a serious issue for communities like Clifford Ward.  So we opened up a 'Food Pantry', which was made available weekly, for anyone who had a need, even if you are working and are on a tight budget.
